Nicholas A. Bond

  • Principal Research Scientist
  • Washington State Climatologist

A majority of my current research is under the broad umbrella of the Fisheries-Oceanography Coordinated Investigation (FOCI). Much of this work has been on the variability in climate and atmospheric forcing of the Bering Sea, and topographical effects on coastal winds in Alaska. The results from these studies are being applied to issues related to the marine ecosystems in Alaskan waters, with an emphasis on the impacts of climate variability and change.  Additional research is being conducted on air-sea interactions in the sub-tropical western North Pacific, focusing on the response of the ocean to tropical cyclones.  I also investigate the causes and effects of climate variability in the Pacific Northwest as the Climatologist for the state of Washington.
